Roots and Wings
The Power of Home-School Partnerships
Dear Learning Partners,
As parents and educators, we give our children the roots to grow and the wings to fly.
To do this well, we must communicate with one another, support one another, and recognize that each person brings valuable knowledge and perspective to the conversation. Both voices matter.
When home and school form a partnership built on mutual respect and open communication, children learn, grow, and succeed.
Children learn when the adults work together toward a common goal. When parents and teachers share the same outcomes, helping children flourish, the relationship shifts from us and them to working together.
Children grow when the adults in their lives respect each other’s expertise. Parents know their children deeply. Educators understand teaching, learning, and child development. Each perspective is valued, conversations become collaborative rather than defensive.
Children succeed when parent-teacher relationships are built on trust. Partnerships do not automatically happen, they develop through respectful, open, and ongoing conversations. Clear and consistent communication between home and school allows collaboration to thrive and trust to grow.
When parents and educators communicate, collaborate, and cooperate, children gain strong roots and the confidence to spread their wings. Strong partnerships begin with conversation. What conversation could you start today?
Warmly, Tamara & Peggy
